what happes to a hulka clip used for tubal ligation after 20yrs if you dont have it removed?
my mother had a tubal ligation done about 20 years ago and has never had it reversed. they used the hulka (or wolf) clip which is made from plastic, does it just go away after this long or is it still in place? if it is still in her body, would it cause any complications to her health?
It’s still there. Plastic is not going to dissolve in her body. Most likely, it has calcification around it even. That’s what the body does to foreign substances or objects; it makes a protective barrier around them in time. Will it cause her any harm? Not likely if it hasn’t in the past 20 years. Some women have post tubal ligation syndrome, but that has to do with the ovaries and their blood supply being damaged during the TL itself. If she hasn’t had any effects from that, it’s unlikely she will at this late of date.
